I am a graduate of Old Dominion University, where I studied Psychology, Human Services, and Counseling. I received my Master’s Degree from the University of Arizona Global Campus in 2023 where I graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Instructional Technology & Design. I have 15 years of on-the-job experience related to payroll, project coordination & management, account reconciliation, and expense reports. I studied Computer Information Systems at James Madison University for a year, where I obtained experience compiling reports and managing databases. For several years I worked at State Farm Insurance as an underwriting assistant, where I gained experience in the financial sector. While attending JMU, I was able to spend time volunteering with children at the East Coast Migrant Head Start and with local area children attending McGaheysville Elementary School, where I assisted with after school activities and homework help.
I worked for a year at the University of Virginia’s Pain Management and Physical Medicine & Rehab clinics. This position helped me gain familiarity with all aspects of patient care and hospital procedures. Helping people is a passion of mine, especially those who may be culturally disadvantaged. I work hard to provide the best level of care, keep meticulous notes, and document each case so that no one is left behind. If I am not familiar with something, I can quickly figure it out and let the inquiring party know. I believe in active and empathetic listening to ensure every party feels heard, understood, and valued before finding the best solution.
In my free time, I study HTML and CSS; I recently finished an online certification in Front-End Web Development Foundations from John Hopkins University. I have been making websites as a hobby since high school, I am familiar with tools such as FrontPage and Word Press, and various web hosting services.
Currently I am taking courses to enhance my skills in Digital Marketing and UX Design through MicroMasters and MicroBachelors programs offered through edx.org.
"Before Megan, I worked with three other Administrative Coordinators at the CVRC. I have enjoyed working with Megan the most, mainly because of her professional conduct. Megan has proved herself essential to our laboratory operations. She is responsible for the onboarding of new employees, securing visas, obtaining signatures for further grant funding, and communicating with vendors to acquire various equipment necessary for our research."
-Swapnil K. Sonkusare, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics
"Megan is integral in our onboarding of new students and lab volunteers. She is always prepared with the necessary forms for obtaining photo ID’s, visas or any required documents. She is a real “people-person” and works to make sure new lab members feel immediately welcomed and informed, along with giving them a tour of the hospital. Any organization would benefit greatly from having a person like Megan on their team."
-Brant E. Isakson Professor in Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics
"Timeliness is essential in an environment like ours; Megan is always prompt to reply to e-mails or come to the lab in-person when necessary. She can regularly secure a conference room for our lab meetings, even on just a moment's notice."
-Jim Garmey Lab Manager, Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center
"I received my DS-2019 form in a timely manner before arrival to the United States thanks to Megan. Simply put, I was immediately struck by her drive, engagement, and creativity. She was very personable and made me feel immediately welcome to the University. I found her to be eager, inquisitive, and diligent in her pursuit of learning both on and off the job."
-Kehan Ren, Ph.D. Research Associate of Cardiovascular Research
"During Megan’s tenure here, she has proven herself an outstanding patient advocate, technical resource, and team member. In addition, she quickly grasped the particulars of several computer systems and is able to assist others with those systems now. Megan is able to communicate effectively with all literacy levels and across cultures. She is quite deft with a challenging patient population and with our physician staff, whom she handles with fluid ease. Her transition as a new employee here was seamless and she has responded admirably to a changing and demanding environment as well as ever changing technologies."
-Sharon Ackerman, Clinician II, BSN, M.Ed
